Hello! This is Susan Gertz, photographer and owner of Dogpatch Pet Portraits! I’m so excited to tell you about a wonderful collaboration between me, Miami Valley Pit Crew; and Geoffry Gertz, designer, artist, and educator at Parsons School of Design, to create a fantastic charity calendar called Pit Bulls on Patrol™ to benefit the dog rescue efforts of Miami Valley Pit Crew (MVPC). Since 2013, MVCP has paid out in excess of $100,000 in medical bills for dogs who otherwise would not have had a chance at life. MVPC is a foster home based rescue and operates entirely on donations.
Miami Valley Pit Crew volunteer, Rachel Brannon approached me with a calendar concept that she and MVPC director Collette Jordan had collaborated on, and I was delighted to donate my time and effort to make it happen. As Rachel and I talked, we began to envision a series of fun scenes where a human officer and Pit Bull “partner” officer work together. I suggested the concept of photographing the scenes on a white background and adding illustrations to create the scene. My brother, Geoffry Gertz, a fabulous artist, was kind enough to donate his time to create the background illustrations. MVPC Directors Blake and Collette were on board with the plan, and so we began!
Rachel did an amazing job of recruiting police officers from all around the area, including Clay Township, Carlisle, Springfield, West Chester, Troy, and many more locations! In the sample scene below, officers are helping stranded motorists with a flat tire. The image shows the original photo, the background illustration, and the combined final page. Every month of the calendar has a different scene created the same way.
The Pit Bulls on Patrol™ calendar will be ready to ship in time for holiday gift giving! If you’d like to be notified when calendars are ready to order, please provide your name and e-mail below. We hate spam, and will not share your address or send you any unsolicited e-mail.
